After beating on a kinetic bullet puller for a little over an hour I decided to try the RCBS Collet Bullet Puller that others have recommended. I should have been pulling bullets this way a LONG time ago! It sets up on your press by screwing the bullet down into it. You screw the collet needed into the bullet puller and insert the round that needs the bullet pulled into the case holder on your press. You lower the handle on your press causing the bullet to go up into the collet. Then you turn the t-handle on top of the bullet puller, tightening the collet onto the bullet. Then by simply raising the handle on your press you pull the bullet!
With a little bit of practice I became pretty efficient at pulling a bullet, pouring the powder from the case into a container, recovering the pulled bullet and setting up for pulling the next bullet. If for some reason you've seated the bullet to the ogive there won't be anything for the collet to grab onto. If it can not grab the bullet you will need a kinetic style bullet puller for that round. You will need the bullet puller plus the collet for the caliber bullet that you need to pull. The unit runs around $19 with the collets each around $12.

I still really like this little unit. I actually picked up a few more different caliber collets because they were on sale.

I used this unit again the other day to pull some of my 30 caliber stuff. I have also used the 17 caliber puller since my last post here and it worked great. I recommend this unit.

So do you have to tighten it to every round, or does it automatically grab it when you run it up in to the puller?

Yes, you tighten it every round but it is quick and fast to use. If you've got some bullets to pull you can try mine and see how you like it.

The RCBS bullet puller is pretty foolproof. I cant see it ever wearing out either??? I don't know how long I have had mine but the price on the box is $3.95,. way befor UPC codes. I don't know this for fact but I have heard that a kinetic hammer can make a round go off,. under certain conditions??? even if you never use this bullet puller, its a nice thing to have on the shelf,. but sheesh!!! collets run around $12? That seems a lot of money for what it is?

haha,. made me go look. you know how RCBS stamps the date on the topof the die? It would be kind of fun to see the dates on some of our dies,. and I was wrong, the price for the bullet puller was $3.75,. not $3.95. Oh yeah, the date is '66!!! Just for kicks, i looked at my300winmag dies; '83 so that must be when I bought that rifle? 700 BDL,. used too, so the gun is older still under 3/4"

I'm not sure if they still make it, but I have a universal collet for my R.C.B.S.,I bought it and the universal collet for my trimmer also, that was in 1983. The only problem, like you stated, is if the bullet is seated to the cannurle, you need to push your handle down to break the crimp, then lift it, this will usually work.
