Have you ever used one of those knives with a gut hook on them? How do you like them? I liked using the one that I had but found it a bit of a pain to sharpen.

I've got a cool knife with a gut hook, but I just found it to be more of a novelty every time I went to sharpen it and realized I never really used it anyhow. But they sure do look cool.

I like them but you do need a round diamond file to sharpen them. I think I showed you the diamond file I carry. It's tapered and folds back into the handle. I don't go into the field or far from home without it. I've been known to touch up peoples carving knives and such when visiting. Little old knife sharpener me. But seriously I really like gut hooks and have several from folding to belt knives. I made my first one myself many years ago to gut fish with. With the right sharpener you can't go wrong with a gut hook knife. Here is a picture of the sharpeners I use, and I use them for even serrated knives.

I have had them but I just never used them. I prefer to just use my blade to do my gutting.

My lucky hunting knife is a browning guthook folder and I love the hook. Comes in real handy for capeing. I've done two deer and a hog and I haven't had to sharpen it yet. My only complaint is that it's harder to make the cut around the poop chute with a blade that has a hook.
