Father and Son San Diego Hunt

Well let me start

This has been one hell of a season for me and my four year old son. We have shot, coyotes, doves, slaughter some fish and deer (a doe and buck). None the less the easiest hunt for both of us was dove. He doesnt have to stay still or quite.

This Friday, I had kinda planned to hunt with friend. He is on his second D-16 deer take after shooting a buck last weekend. He was going out again and by himself. I really didnt have anything going on so I was going to hunt with him and keep him some company. I broke my plans to hunt another one of my usual spots to hunt with my friend.

On 11-07-08, I was at home getting everything together last minute. Every time I do this I always forget something. Now we (my son and I) are on our way. We arrive at the hunting area at about 4:00 p.m.

Like any good varmint hunter, I took all my calls and decoys. I pulled over the side of the road and crested a small hill and began a set. Less than 5 mins in, I see a yote about 250 yards coming towards us. All I continued to do was tell my 4 yr old son “be quite don’t move.” It always seems like he has ants in his pants or there is a rock that just needs to be thrown.

We coaxed the yote in to about 75 yards and wham-o. 6.5X55 Styer did him in good. My son jumps up so excited and we recovered the yote. During the photo session my son asked, "Daddy is this a mommy coyote (female) or a daddy coyote (male)." I told him it was a mommy coyote. He looks at me and say, “Daddy, the daddy coyotes are going to be mad at you for shooting the mommy and they are going to attack you.” I laugh my azz off.

http://calivc.com/forums/post-a3254-coyo-ray.jpg
http://calivc.com/forums/post-a3253-coyo-me.jpg

While driving to camp my son says, “Daddy Im tired of shooting coyotes, I want to shoot a deer.” At camp I start getting my gear together for a somewhat deer hunt with my son. I noticed I forgot my BOOTS!!!!! So Im sitting there thinking, It’s not like im going to walk far with my son. (If anyone has hunted with a 4 yr old you know what im talking about.)

11-08-08 we woke up at about 0500 hours. My son is excited. I choose to wait until the sun comes up before we leave camp. Several hunters from our camp have been seeing large Mountain Lion tracks in the near by hills. I wasn’t taking any chances walking around with a mountain lion lure behind me.

We were hiking up a small hill about ¼ to ½ mile from camp. I seen the buck at about 125 yard away. I shoot and hit him hard. My son was crazy excited yelling good shot, good shot. There were a lot of high fives between us. This deer is dedicated to my son, because if it wasn’t for him I would had never been in the spot that I was. Therefor I would had never shot the buck.

My son did not waste any time grabbing the antlers and pose for the camera
http://calivc.com/forums/post-a3257-ray-deer.jpg

Proud dad and his son
http://calivc.com/forums/post-a3255-deer-me-ray.jpg

The heart from the deer. Right in the broiler room.
http://calivc.com/forums/post-a3256-heart.jpg

Let me tell you, give my son and dead yote and deer head and he will be on auto pilot for the entire day. This is the best in camp babysitter you could think of. When we got home, he ran in the house with the deer head to show my wife. She yelled at us and sent us into the back yard

http://calivc.com/forums/post-a3252-coyo-deer.jpg

Opening Day San Diego

Well this hunt started in February. I was out hunting coyotes with two friends. Well during the conversation I told one, “If you apply for a doe tag, I will guarantee you one. Money back guarantee.” I figured I would offer the money back guarantee since it wasnt going to cost anything and I had nothing to loose.

So now that I inserted my foot into my mouth I need to come through. I did a lot of scouting and it paid off. 1 ½ hours into the opening day, I delivered as promised. My friend shot the deer at 125 yards with a 30-06. The photos are me and my son. I forgot to ask my buddy if he was cool with his pixs on the net.

I took my four year old son out with us. It should be an experience he will never forget.

Good Luck to the rest of you. I will be back out tonight for a buck.

http://calivc.com/forums/post-a3246-
