Lead Free Rim Fire Ammunition Search

Since I live right smack in the middle of Condor Range this topic is important to me. So in a short while the California Government plans to make it illegal to carry leaded ammunition around here. Problem is no one seems to care. Like this problem is just going to fix its self. By no one, I'm mostly referring to the sporting goods stores here in Condor Range.

I've been into many gun shops and sporting good stores around Bako and I have yet to find anyone that is up on this whole Lead Ban Business. Every place I've been to doesn't even know that CCI is the only manufacturer currently offering lead free rim fire ammunition to the general public (Currently only the 22 WMR). And no one even has this ammunition in stock.

We're coming into the end of May here and most stores I've been to only have one box each of 270 through 30-06. Geesh.

So, I've been trying to do my own research and prompting. I'll post what I find here for anyone interested.

Hopefully all this foot dragging will produce such an out cry that the Lead Ban will be declared unconstitutional by the end of the year.

Varmint/Small Game hunting Near San Diego

Hey everybody, first off, thanks for the site! Secondly, I have done a search on this topic and although ive found a lot of useful information I still can't get a straightforward answer. Maybe im just too picky. And I know people say BLM/NF land is the place to start but those areas are vast and my ADD is not. Could someone please offer some insight for a complete n00b? I'd like to shoot anything from squirrels to rabbits, pheasant or quail. But particularly I just wanna go get some jacks and squirrels. Where about near the Salton Sea, I have never even so much as driven past it. So im confuzzled!

Thanks for any replies! Greatly appreciated!
Nate

On behalf of the hunters of Colorado, I'd like to express thanks and gratitude to those of you that did the right thing and signed our petition. The proposal to ban prairie dog hunting was solidly defeated by a unanimous 9-0 vote. The various petitions opposing the ban generated almost 8,000 signatures. Your signature helped us win, this time. But the Animal Rights Activists aren't through yet. They are threatening to push this ban onto the November ballot. This will involve a whole different strategy than just signing a petition. I hope we are up to the new challenge.

Thank you, again, from the sportsmen and women of Colorado.

Got out today!

Well decided to get after the squeaks today. I figured they should be out and dumb. One of the orchards I hunt gets very little pressure but I did pretty much wipe out the species last year at the farmers request. Well there were some out and they were a little shy with all the activity on the farm and the farm next door. I hammered a few early on with the .17hmr, I actually like to still hunt em with the .17, but then decided to set up in the middle of the orchard with the .204 and do some sniping. Scored 100% with the .204 at 177, 171, 182 and 195yds. I think the total for the couple of hours I was there was about 12 squeaks, which is pretty darn good since there aren't many left on the place. The farmer actually told me today that he has an old friend that's 82 that shoots squeaks on the place tell him that he didn't even see any the last time out. He proudly told the farmer that he must be doing a pretty good job on the squeaks for him. The farmer didn't have the heart to tell him that I was slaughter'n em.
Enjoy some pics.

The animal rights activists have screwed up hunting in CA, and now they are doing it again in Colorado.
